Dreambear Saga

Logo and art from Dreambear

Dreambear is a social game children can play on various social networks such as Hyves and Facebook. It’s a magnificently hand drawn world in which players create their own dreambear and start on a grand adventure in the sky kingdom of Great Beronia. There they can chat and play with hundreds of other players at the same time, dress up their avatar, play mini-games and do many exciting quests around the city. But there’s danger present as well: the kingdom is threatened by the king’s evil half-brother. Can the player team up with the heroes of the realm to save everyone?

Published by Spil Games, Dreambear is WEBER’s most ambitious undertaking yet, developed in the cooperation called Mid Level Sub Boss (MLSB). Dreambear has currently launched on Hyves and at the time of this writing is set to be published on Facebook later in the year and on other social media as the months progress.

My role in Dreambear’s development is that of:

  • Developing minigames, such as Skatecake.
  • Partly server-side programming: Serving up the game (handling authentication as well) and processing payments.
  • Development of smaller components (such as the text bubbles).
  • General programming help.

Skatecake is a minigame playable in the world of Dreambear which I designed (not graphically) and programmed. In it, the player takes on the role of Knieval, who is in the business of cake delivery. The goal of the game is to guide Knieval on a skateboard through a course full of obstacles and let him arrive at the end with as many cakes as possible still in his bag. The player character moves forward automatically, but he can brake, duck, jump, swing on poles and slide on ropes to survive the various hazards.
